On Wednesday, January 8, 2020, the Richmond Academic Library Consortium (RALC) held its first professional development event. The workshop was held at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with 36 participants from eight of the 10 RALC institutions. John Sarvay of the local consulting firm, Floricane, was the speaker. John’s three-hour program included interactive activities and several opportunities for the attendees to engage with and learn from each other. The workshop invited participants to look at leadership from different perspectives, contemplate their own leadership styles and encouraged rich dialogue.

The RALC professional development committee was pleased with the outcome of the event. Some of the comments from attendees included:

“It was wonderful to spend time with colleagues from across the area.”

“John was excellent and engaging – he effectively was able to target the needs of our group which was so diverse in positions, problems, and needs!” “It was so lovely to put faces to names and to spend time focusing on such an important topic we rarely have time to target individually on our own time.”
